Yellow Pin Stripes?

by Martha
(Norwalk, CT)

The bird was a little bigger than a robin, and mostly on the ground after I had turned on the sprinkler. It had a crested head and bright yellow stripes running the length of its wings. I believe that the bird was mostly brown. I saw it in Norwalk, CT, but I have never seen a bird of this size and color in the back yard. I thought at first it might be some kind of grouse, but I couldn't find it in any of my bird books.
