When Should The Hummingbird Leave for The South?

by Patty
(Maryland)

Hello Susan, I don't know if you can answer my question or not but I have a female hummingbird that has not migrated. It is the middle of
October and I am starting to worry about her since it gets mighty cold around here at the end of October. My question is should I try to capture her or will nature finally take it's course and she will migrate or do you think she might have something wrong with her?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have. I do
love my hummingbirds and don't want anything to happen to any of them.

Thanks again.

Patty

Don't worry Patty. Let nature takes it course. When it's too cold the hummer will leave. Most hummingbirds can tolerate colder weather as long as there is food available. You can read more about hummingbird migration and their fascinating journey here.

I love my hummingbirds too!
Happy Birding,
Susan
