What kind of bird is this?

by Vanessa
(Long Island, NY)

We have a family of sparrows living in birdhouse on our front porch. Also have a feeder hanging nearby. About 2 days ago two of these birds showed up. Seem to upset the sparrows. Even got nosy near the birdhouse but today just wants to eat. Can you let me know what kind of bird it is please.

Comment:
Unfortunately that is a Starling. Chase him away.

Thank you for responding. The sparrow family were all flyng around him & yelling as if threatened by him. Maybe just because they have nest close by but they don't react to other birds that have come. I wouldn't chase them away.

It's a starling, but don't chase him away poor thing - he'll soon have other food sources and not come back.
