What kind of bird is this?

by Jessica
(Gulfport, ms, usa)

We have this bird that we find perched in the corner of our patio roof. we have seen it there at night sleeping on several occasions. It's hard to get a good look at it in the dark when it is all curled up. I tried to get a good picture of it but between the lack of light and the fog on my lens the photo's I've included are the best I could do. Also, I'm not sure you can tell from the photo but the birds' feathers have a downy appearance like maybe its a young bird not an adult. I'm in Gulfport, Mississippi about 30 minutes from the coast. Any help would be appreciated.

From the overall coloring, barred tail that would be a place to start.
