What kind of bird is this?

Hawk?

Hawk?

I saw this bird in my back yard in suburban Houston, Texas. Does anybody know what kind of bird it is? It was tormenting the Squirrels and Blue Jays.

This could possibly be a Northern Goshawk (accipiter species)

Hawk or Falcon
by: Pat

Falcons are known for their "racing stripes" on their head in and around the eye area. I don't see striping in this photo.

It looks too big to be a falcon. Could be a Red-tailed hawk.

Isn't that one majestic bird. It is either a hawk or a falcon.
Possibilities are a Broad-winged Hawk, or a Peregrine Falcon.

A falcon is different from a hawk by their long wings, which are bent back at the wrist. They can also be distinguished by their call.
