What is this bird?

by Louise
(Gloucestershire)

I live on common land in Gloucestershire and these birds hide in the grass and then fly of as you approach. They kind of swoop and then flutter, swoop then flutter. They walk rather than hop. They seemed to be pecking the ground. They're are several together. They are light brown and look thrush like? What are they please?

what bird is this? NEW

Hi Louise, I'm sorry no one has answered. I'm guessing because no one knows what they are. Most of us also live in the states and we aren't familiar with the birds you may have. Many different birds fly like the ones you are seeing and many of these walk rather than hop. If you have any wildlife centers or Audubon they may be able to give you some idea.
