We are in Michigan and this bird recently appeared around our creek. There is a pair of them that have been hanging around for a few weeks. They are larger than most birds, grey body, black head and a white ring around their neck. This pictures was taken from very far away and cropped. Hope someone knows what this is. Thanks.

That is a Belted Kingfisher. He's on the lookout for minnows and other small fish that may swim past. After he digests the meat, the bones and scales are thrown up without the least nausea. If you see their babies, you're in for a real treat. Usually 5 or 6 eggs are laid.
