Valentine's Day visit

We happened to spot a beautiful Red Bellied Woodpecker on our birch tree, near our feeder. It was majestic. The red was perfect for the date, Valentine's Day. We live in Prince George, B.C. Canada. From what I have read on these birds, they don't normally come up this far. I am hoping it was a sign of an early spring. This is the first time I saw this kind of a woodpecker here. Does anyone know if this is rare? Val and Perry Ebaghetti.
