I heard some birds in a tree while out playing with my camera and decided to see if I could get any pictures. I managed to locate this beautiful bird in the tree and get a few really good pictures. There were several birds in the tree but I couldn't see all of them. One was making a call that sounded like a laugh. I have no idea if it was this bird or not but I'm really curious to identify both this bird and the call I was hearing.

It is a northern flicker. They make lots of cools sounds. First time we heard one we laughed ourselves silly because we thought it sounded like a monkey! They also make a very cool, deep, drum sound. Check these out - I think the rolling rattle call is what you are describing.
