Unknown beauty!

by Sarah
(Peoria, IL)

This bird was in my parents locust tree in Champaign, IL. May 7th was the first sighting and it has been seen several times since. Can you help us identify it?

We just saw one in Minnesota!
by: kathy

We saw one just like it this morning. The sugar water I put out for the orioles seemed to draw it in. Really an eye catching bird... have never seen one like it before. I am so curious about what it is.

Young Scarlet Tanager
by: Judy- Seattle

What a gorgeous bird! I looked in my bird book and think it is a young Scarlet Tanager. I searched the web and found this webpage with a picture of a bird much like yours. http://www.naturesound.com/birds/pages/tanager.html
There is a Western Tanager that has a red head and yellow body, but they should not be found in Illinois.
