Two of these birds came to our bird feeder today.

by Mary
(MInnesota)

Today was the first time the two birds came to our yard. They have a black head, and looks like a pale yellow beak. The chest is pure white escept for a small amount of red that comes down from the neck area. The back is black and white, the tail is black on the top and white beneath. Medium size bird. Beak is good sized. I would like to know if someone knows what kind of bird that these are. Very beautiful and colorful.

Sounds like a Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Check out this page for more info; Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

Answer to the Two birds in our backyard
by: Mary

I just checked on Rose Breasted Grosbeaks and found out that is the kind of birds we are getting in our yard. We have been feeding other birds SunFlower seeds and it seems that the Grosbeaks really like it.
Thank you for your help in finding out the name of these beautiful birds.
