The Office Cardinal

The first time I saw the beautiful little red bird was about 2 years ago. I heard a ruckus at the back door of my office which is located on the beautiful Indian River in Fort Pierce, FL. Unfortunately, the door as well as all the windows are mirrors. At first, I thought he was trying to play with the bird in the mirror until I read your above article.
His wife would come around also, to the little bird seed (planter) that I set up with food. Of course, she was a little smaller and brownish, but just as cute.
Today, I looked out the back door and saw the female, and she was looking much smaller than usual, and I thought that maybe she was not getting enough food. Upon a closer look, I see that it's a little baby! So tiny and cute, it flies already to the bird feeder. I am thrilled to have all 3.
CommentThe male cardinal is nearly a model husband, following his mate and singing while she builds her rough twig and grass nest in a tree, vine, or bush. He brings food to her while she incubates the three or four eggs.
Many a day is brightened by the gaiety of their fantastic garb.
Happy birding,
Susan
