Surprised by these beauties
by Mary-Rhea McMullen
(Tulsa OK)
We recently realized just what an ant "problem" we have in a particular area of our front yard. Today, my daughter calls me to see two birds we have seen prior to this. I thought from the shape of their beaks they were woodpeckers but didn't know what kind. Did some googling and discovered they are Northern Flickers. And they are indeed feeding on the ground in front of my bedroom window right where all the ants were discovered. Now I don't want to do anything to run off the ants!!! These birds are gorgeous.
