Suburban Chicago small purple/ red on belly

Saw this bird in a meadow small wide pointy wings flying about 2-3 feet off the ground very fast ,

Movement reminded me of a bat. Two note call. Saw o series of them

Perhaps they were Barn Swallows flying low to snatch flying insects on the wing.
