Streaked breast with light stripe over eye Tomball, TX

by Becky
(Tomball, TX)

This bird reminds me of a song sparrow only bigger. Very streaked breast and back is not solid. Basically brown and white. It is about the size of a robin. The tail is on the short side and has a beige streak above the eyes. I can't get a good photo of it. It eats the seeds from the bird feeder. Sunflower seeds, cracked corn, millet mostly.

Red winged blackbird NEW

Thank you. You are so right. It most definitely is a female red winged black bird. This reminds me of when I first moved to the Gulf South and could not identify the female Great tailed grackle. It took me a few years to identify it in the years before Internet.

Red-wing Blackbird NEW

Becky, your description sounds a lot like a female Red-wing Blackbird. The first time I saw one, I had no idea what it was because they look so different from the male.
