I've seen this smallest bird in NJ
by: dawn

I have also seen this very, very small bird in my backyard in northern NJ, and have attempted to identify it, with no luck. It is definitely not a hummingbird. I have seen it fly and land just 18" from my head. They come in the summer, year after year, to the same trees to hang out. It is sleek tiny bird with the creamy soft muted yellowish green color, that has been mentioned. I can't find any similar birds in my birder books. It flies like a regular bird. Unfortunately, I have never had a camera handy to get a picture, but am very glad someone else has seen these adorable miniature-like birds.

Smallest bird we ever seen
by: Randy Hatyaway

No it is smaller than a humming bird, I will try and get a photo of this bird and also there is another one a bit bigger that flew into our widow and knocked itself out but was able to later fly away. That particular bird my son-in-law couldn't believe how small it was and when my wife said there is another one even smaller he said No Way!!!! My daughter has a camera and we will try and get a photo.

Hi Randy, I have never heard of any bird that small in the states other than a hummingbird. Hummers do call and chirp, are you certain it isn't a hummingbird? You might try a feeder to see if it will eat from it. When my hummingbird feeders are empty the birds sit on the fence by my patio and chirp like crazy until I fill it.
