by Rex and Janel
(Redding, CA)

On Dec 25 pm a small bird appeared at our front porch (huddled in the corner) It is small gray bird with a red triangle on top of its head. It comes back every night. We have seen it fly away and does not appear to be injured. We Ilive in Redding CA and our days are usually around 40-50 degrees and nights are 30-40 degrees. Please help us identify this bird and behavior.

Thank you

I just found one in my flower bed here in Des Moines, Iowa. Unfortunately it was dead. I am researching it and believe it to be a Kinglet of some type.

by: LisaZ

I saw this little bird with the red spot on its head yesterday in St. Stephens Church, VA, King & Queen County. I was hunting; it knew I was there & came very, very close with curiosity. So cute!

We just saw one today, Durham,NC, late Dec. 40-50 degrees out. He was so friendly, if the car windows were down, he would’ve come right in! He tried a few times! So cute! Maybe a baby? Trying to figure out what he is!

There's a pair of these sweet birds with us, as well.
by: Ann in Santa Barbara

So happy to see this little one pictured here.
We just rid ourselves of our lawns, and put in a sustainable landscape. About a month ago this little fellow and his mate showed up. Never been here before. They approach nearly each time I come outside. They bring such joy with them!

Small grey bird with red triangle on head
by: John

This bird with its distinctive red crown on its head and olive to grey body color would appear to be a Ruby Crowned Kinglet.
