small blue bird with yellow beak

by Colin
(Windsor ontario Canada)

Nearest thing I can find is an indigo bunting, but the beak was definitely yellow, and not as stubby as the Indigo bunting. Sitting by a cornfield on a weed, about 4 ft off the ground. Not a bluebird blue, but a little deeper, and almost iridescent, I thought quickly of a perching hummingbird because of it, but too big and not the right beak. shading to dark gray/blue on the wings.

Ontario Canada, north shore of lake Erie. July 30. Close Two hours before sunset. Perching when I saw it from about 30 ft, lost sight and it was gone, so don't know flight characteristics. Hot day, bright but not sunny.

Any ideas?
