Same little birds NEW
by: CGJ

Same little birds. Two of them hanging out on my porch. I figure they hang out there for protection from hunting night owls. One hangs out
on my hanging light chain that droops and poops on the porch. I hate cleaning the poop up so I'm changing the light to a inexpensive flush mount. The other cuddles in the corner.
I'll purchase a hanging basket for them to hide in. Thanks for the info on these little birds!
I had a change of heart now that I have more info on them.

Carolina Wren NEW
by: Anonymous

Definitely Carolina Wrens... For those of you building or hanging a birdhouse for them, most likely they will ignore it. Wrens build bowl shaped nests from twigs and straw and their nests are definitely around your homes somewhere. Your more likely to see them sleeping under your awning or porch when rain is approaching in summer or for warmth in cooler months. When mine show up its usually a good indication that rain is on its way. Carolina Wrens are widely dispersed around the u.s. and not just the Carolinas. If you want to help them with shelter under your porch or awning, just put up a hanging basket or open source shelter, not an enclosed one, though they are happy sleeping there just as you see them. They are not homeless, and yes they have a nest around somewhere nearby...

Lamplight Inn and Restaraunt
by: Anonymous

I just moved into a new house, in the middle of Kansas. There is a broken lamplight in the middle of the yard. Every evening around 8pm this little brown bird sits inside the lamp. It is there all night ( Yes, I check often )At day break it is gone. I am not going to replace the lamplight. I am going to leave it as a bird sanctuary. I placed a feeder close by, just in case.

I'm not understanding that it is wintertime and freezing outside and this little bird is sleeping in one of my carport corner's.

Carolina Wrens
by: Cat

When we lived in Richmond, Va., we had a pair that roosted under the porch ceiling for years. I love the Carolina Wrens! Busy, noisy, lots of personality. They made nests around the house every spring, and were wonderful parents.

Same here - mine are grow Carolina Wrens
by: Katie

Here lately, just before dark, a couple of times, I've heard the familar sound of the Carolina Wren's song (guessing it's the male singing) dcoming from my front porch (south of Atl. GA). Within a minute the second CW appears. I've had the unique blessed joy of observing the pair fly up (first the second one then the singer) into a coner of the porch eve. How wonderful to get to witness such a sight! By morning they're gone. Makes me smile to think about it.

Little Cutie

I have one of these darlings in my front porch I noticed it last night. I was wondering if it was abandoned. After reading this article, it looks like it is its normal behavior. Weird.

I live in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

I must tell Jesus all of my trials,
I cannot bear these burdens alone;
In my distress He kindly will help me,
He ever loves and cares for His own.

So adorable! Mine is sleeping on an abandoned wasp nest on our porch. Has anyone had road construction where they had to cut down trees? We have that going on, thought the bird had had its little nest destroyed.

the brown fuzzy ball
by: Richard/Gallup, NM

The brown fuzzy balls roosting on the porch corners are Carolina wrens. They enjoy the micro-climate of additional house heat, light, and attracted bugs. If you watch them closely, they even have figured out that the larvae of the European paper wasp taste pretty good, and dig them out of the hanging wasp nests. You might want to google Carolina wrens and check out Pat Sutton's site on Carolina wrens, she even hangs roosting baskets on her porch for them, which the birds use, and they still like to use the corners when the basket is occupied!

small fury bird nesting under porch roof
by: Frank

We have exactly the same little bird nesting on on top of a post under our porch. Well, not exactly nesting... more like roosting overnight. Appears just after dark and usually gone early in the morning? Very cute little bird, white tiped soft brown feathers, dark brown tail feathers. Usually faces the corner so we can't see the face at all. If anyone knows what it is, we want to know if there's anything we can do to protect, feed, etc.
