small back birds

by Linda Ainsworth
(Pineville, LA)

We have a VERY large flock of small black - at least they appear black with some brown on wing tips - in our back yard which consist of hardwoods and pines. They are eating seeds on the ground and then flying from place to place. Wonder what they are? We have never seen this before.

Thanks

How small exactly? NEW
by: GaryE

My first thought is grackles however they are not what I would call small . . so I am dubious. Take a look at http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Common_Grackle/id and see what you think. I actually have a bunch of them in my backyard as I am writing this LOL
