Saving my dove babies

by mindy
(NY)

I have a dove nest in my yard that I have been watching for weeks. The other day I finally got a chance to see the babies. They are on the top of our arbor not hard to see at all. It was very very windy yesterday and I walked out back and noticed the mother bird sitting on the grass. Thinking it was strange I walked up and saw she was sitting on her babies, the nest fell.

I picked the babies up and the nest putting it in her spot and she came back to them. One of the babies fell out 2 more times that day because with the falling and the wind the nest was pretty well shot. I decided I was going to make a nest!

I got a 32 oz plastic container and put spanish moss in it. I picked up the fallen baby and put him in and reached up and put the container on its side next to her nest all secure. This morning it is pouring so I ran out to check on them.

The mother had put the other baby in the container and was half way inside with them. I am so happy she did that. I did not sleep last night, worried they would fall.
