îs it a bird?

by Amber
(Savannah Ga)

It's small like a humming bird..even smaller then any I have ever seen before. It's quick like a humming bird. Its kind of a problem in the evenings for me and my kids. It follows us close and even entered the car while my infant was strapped in his car seat. Its so fast and small I can't get a good look at it. Very long like beak. Anyone have any clue what this is? We live in Savannah Game if that helps.

Sphinx Moths NEW
by: Richard

The hummingbird moth is a member of a family of moths called hawk moths or sphinx moths. Hummingbird amd Bumblebee moths have clear areas in their wings. There are some larger species in your area that will follow sweet odors and perfumes, and you know that they are doing this when they fly after you with their tongues extended. They are completely harmless, even if they land on you, but for a first time encounter can be rather terrifying.
Some of the bigger and more common moths that will do this are the Waved Sphinx Moth, and the White-lined Shinx Moths, the Carolina Sphinx Moth, and the Five-spotted Hawk Moth (the tomato horned worm caterpillar). All these moths have horned caterpillars which look equally terrifying! But feel complimented; they think you are a flower!
