Rose-breasted grosbeak in Lindenhurst IL, May 8, 2011

(Lindenhurst, Lake County, IL)

This Mother's Day morning I saw a very colorful bird on my backyard feeder containing cardinal food. I had never seen a bird with markings like this, so I looked on the internet to try to find out what it was, discovering it was a male rose-breasted grosbeak. I hope this beautiful bird and its mate will keep returning to my feeder and stay in our neighborhood for the summer.
