Rose Breasted Grosbeaks on My Feeder

by Elaine Andrews

These birds are wonderful!! This is the second year we have seen a mated pair of Rose Breasted Grosbeaks visit our backyard feeder. It is May 25th, 2013. We live in Tallmadge, Ohio, which is just north-east of Akron, Ohio.

We have a feeder hanging up high 1 1/2 stories up...very private and quiet area...the feeder is filled with black oil sunflower seeds. Last year when we first found out what the identity of these birds, the male RBG was feeding a young on a branch near the feeder just outside of our window.

The feeder hangs outside a huge picture-window off of our bedroom, onto about 4-acres of beautiful wooded habitat. Today, the female is back at the feeder, after both were spotted on the feeder last week together. We hoped and prayed that they found a place to nest in a tree close by, and raise their young. Wish us luck!
