Rose Breasted Grosbeak

About ten years ago, I was so excited to have a Rose Breasted Grosbeak visit my feeder. He came only a couple of days and then didn't see him again. I happen to be thinking about this bird the other day and wished I would have a visit again. Well, just yesterday I happen to spy a different bird on the feeder. When I carefully approached, there it was a Rose Breasted Grosbeak. I managed to get the cell phone camera and take two pics. They weren't that good because they were taken from inside and the glass was not clean. But thrilled!!! This morning he returned to the feeder but a male cardinal was there too and the Grosbeak ended up flying away. Now I sit with feeder in sight and hope he returns again.

I live in the northern most part of Pinellas county in Florida. Lake Tarpon and John Chesnut Park are my backyard. I only put sunflower seeds in my feeder.

I am lucky to have Eagles, owls, pair of Swallow tail Kites, hummingbirds, hawks of all kinds, and several others but the Rose Breasted is by far my favorite.

Thank you both for sharing. One of the high lights of my day is to open my email for "A Home for Wild Birds" and read what other people are experiencing with their birds! Enjoy, I have never seen one

Rose Breasted Grosbeak NEW
by: Judy in St Pete

We are sitting on our patio in the Weedon Island area of St Petersburg FL, looking at a Rose Breasted Grosbeak on our feeder. We were so surprised to see a bird with a bright red breast and found out what is was with a bird calendar we have. We've never seen one of these and are so excited. We took several pictures and video of him. Who knows when we'll see one again. He's been on the feeder for over an hour. It's such a treat to see a bird we've never seen before. Oh my gosh....another one just flew onto the feeder. It's another male. My husband is trying to get a good photo of them both.
