Rose Breasted Grosbeak

(New Jersey)

My parent's have had this yard in central New Jersey, an acre of wooded property for 25 years now. Suddenly there were new "sparrows" in the yard. We were looking at the female Rose-breasted grosbeaks and not knowing it. A few days later on a wet and rainy day I spotted a male. None of us recognized the bird so I looked up on the computer, played the songs and sure enough it was what we've been hearing.
The male is very gorgeous and striking. A very pleasing bird for both eyes and ears.
