I recently noticed my finch feeders we're seeing increased activity from Gold Finches and House Finches.

I had so much activity that I added several new finch feeders outside my kitchen window.

After the course of the past several days new visitors
resembling finches started showing up in waves.

They were unlike most finches in that they have bright red crests on their heads with beautiful rosy chests blending into white colored lower body coloration with flecks running through the white lower body color.

I looked for pictures of these visitors and found they are red polls also known as hoary redpolls.

They apparently wander far south out of their normal winter range in search of food and is why they are showing up at my feeder in Cottage Grove, MN which is just south of Saint Paul, MN.

I recommend hanging finch feeders that contain a blend of thistle and sunflower seed hearts and then sit back and watch the show of American Gold Finches, House Finches and Red Polls flocking to your feeders!

I am trying to add a picture of these unique visitors for an ID should anyone be lucky enough to get them!
