red mowhawk ed bird in my back yard?

by morgann
(Lincoln County troy missouri)

This bird has the loudest squawk I have ever herd. All I could see was long skinny neck and shaved head gray in color. The bird had a red mowhawk bigger than its head. It was in the wooded area in my backyard in troy missouri.

May be a pileated woodpecker. They are pretty large but I can tell you from personal experience that they have a very loud squack that they make.
