please help

by amanda
(manhattan kansas)

i live in north east kansas and have found a grey bird it has a darker grey stripe pattern in its feathers butis hard to notice unless up close. its beak however is verry bright yellow orange. the poor guy looks as if he's be injured and is missing most of his tail feathers and some others on his wings. He is about 4-5 inches long and chirps like he's screaming for help of his mommy but he was alone all day under a bush. I moved him to different, safer location but am concerned he may die without propper care, i need help identifying the poor fello so i can atleast try to help him. please help, id feel horrible if he died :(
