Please help me identify this bird

A chicken size bird with long tail feathers that was dark grey or grey brown with large white polka dots all over it landed on the neighbors roof for a moment. I live in Antelope Valley California and have never seen anything like it here. Anyone have any idea. I have searched other sites and there is nothing close to it on there searches.
