Please help identify a solid grey, crested bird?

by Catherine

I saw a pair of light grey birds building a nest at the top of a satellite dish pole. The male (?) has a crest and has a body that is shaped similar to a cardinal or blue jay. I didn't get a great look at them and was not able to take their picture, but I think they have a dark grey stripe on them.

Phainopepla NEW
by: Scott

I bet it might be a Phainopepla. I've got a pair in my backyard right now. They look like really sleek, svelte little grey jays.

Seeing of flock of them right now, here in shoreline Connecticut I think they are juvenile or female bluejays. It's a cloudy day so maybe blue coloring not so bright

If the birds were small and you were in Southern California, I might suggest Plain Titmouse.

Waxwing?
by: Susan

I'm wondering if it might have been a Cedar Waxwing.
