Peanut Butter Pine Cone

by Deborah Parnell
(Clovis, CA)

During summer and fall hikes while my husband and I are hiking we collect various size pine cones.

Then in the winter, usually before the holidays, we have the grandchildren come over and we make these bird feeders.

Take a pine cone, run a thin wire or ribbon around the wide end of the cone and tie a knot in the end. Cover cone with peanut butter using a plastic knive. Try to get inside each part of the cone. Sprinkle with bird seed over the peanut butter. Finally roll the whole cone in bird seed to make sure it is completely covered. Hang cone from tree with the wire/ribbon.

These are fun to put on the Christmas tree after the holidays. Move the tree outdoors and decorate with the pine cone feeders for the birds.
