Ocean pigeon?

Live in the central coast of California (Santa Cruz County) in the redwoods about 10 miles to the ocean...we get a rather large bird that comes in a flock...all grey with a white ring around their collar...with large feet...we call them parachute birds...because they just glide down from the redwoods and anything disturbs them as a group as they lift off....I think they are some kind of ocean pigeon??

    Small dusky or dark gray bird, 3 to 4 inches, with a fan shaped tail. The tail had 2 yellow triangle markings, which were about 3/4 to 1 inch each.
