Ocean pigeon?

by Ann
(Santa Cruz County)

Live in the central coast of California (Santa Cruz County) in the redwoods about 10 miles to the ocean...we get a rather large bird that comes in a flock...all grey with a white ring around their collar...with large feet...we call them parachute birds...because they just glide down from the redwoods and anything disturbs them as a group as they lift off....I think they are some kind of ocean pigeon??
