Northern Flicker

by Judy
(Cheyenne, Wyoming )

I have never seen these birds before. I live in Southern Wyoming. Two of these birds flew into my backyard and they were digging in the ground with their long beaks. One of them flew onto the trunk of the tree in the yard and walked up the trunk into the branches. I have never seen a bird walk up a tree trunk. Unfortunately, I did not get pictures.
