Nichole's big year

There is flock of birds that stopped today 1/19/14. The birds are about the size of robins, some very fat others more slender. The look brown with dark green sheen feathers and covered with gold specks. Their tails are square and beaks long and round. They are absolutely beautiful.

They are European Starlings brought over from Europe. They could be juveniles but they are a very hearty, common bird and adapt readily to varying climate changes and diseases so the population in North America over rides native birds.

I agree, looks like a starling. We have had 2 starlings here all winter. Very unusual, they usually migrate. They are existing on suet & nuts.We have lots of snow & very cold temps.
