Never seen this bird before, need help

Outside around my parents bird feeders I seen a small finch bird that was completely black with only a bright yellow line or band around or on its wing. Flew away before I could take a picture of course.

Hi John, I think what has thrown us is that the only bird that fits the description of the markings of an all black bird with a yellow wing bar is a yellow shouldered blackbird and it is quite a bit larger than a finch and the beak is very different. Try going to one of these sites and looking for the yellow-shouldered blackbird:

AllAboutBirds.org

or, you can type in to your search bar: "pic of yellow-winged blackbird". It could possible have been a red-winged blackbird and you just missed the red on the wing but probably not. Other than this I don't know what it would have been.
