Never seen before bird.

I live west of San Antonio Texas. For 2 days now, I have seen in my back yard a bird that is about the size of a blue jay. Head is black, top body is green and blue, under belly is yellow. It has been eating at my feeder. I've lived in Texas for 50 years and have never seen a bird of its color before. I'm enjoying watching it. Sadly I am not able to get a picture with my cell phone. It flies off when I go into my back yard. I can only watch it from my kitchen window. Would love to know if you have any ideas what this pretty fellow is.

Sincere Thanks,
Brenda from Castroville, Texas

Rio Grande Parrot? NEW
by: Dan

Your coloration sounds like a Rio Grande Parrot, the only Parrot native in the US. But it is a bit bigger than a Blue Jay, and fuller too. I have had them at my feeders, mostly because I always have the large raisins for the Blue Jays and Cardinals. The parrots will come in for the raisins.

Might be a Green Jay NEW
by: Barbara

I am such a bird lover and don't know a lot of birds, so I am happy to be part of this site. I went looking..online..using your descriptions and came up with a "Green Jay". This may not be your bird but it has the colors you mentioned. If it is not your bird, at least I have learned something more that I did not know. Not all Jay's are blue! If you have a computer, try doing a search on a green jay, or use descriptive words concerning its coloring. I hope you find the name of your visitor.

never seen this bird before NEW
by: Brook

Hi, I don't have a clue from up here in the PNW but hopefully someone in the south will respond. Enjoy your birding, they are so much fun and when a new one comes into the territory it is always exciting!
