Need Help Indentifying Birds!

by Leannika Simmons

We have a group of birds at our house and I don't know what they are. I live in tasmaina, and the bird has black halfway don the body and brown the other half. It also has black spots on the brown bit of its body. They have short tails, and love to run around. These birds are easy to catch, because the group that I have at my house normally don't fly. They have yellow around their beak, but I am sure they aren't blackbirds. PLEASE HELP!

The bird that i saw looks sorta like a juvenile blackbird. It does look like a native hen, but not exactly.

Leannika, try this website. I found it by googling "flightless birds of Tasmania". Https://themysteriousworld.com/amazing-flightless-birds/ It has a photo of a bird that matches your description. It's called the Tasmanian Native-Hen.
