Mourning Dove

by Peggy
(Arizona)

We had to cut down a Palo Verde tree. To my dismay there was a nesting mourning dove. I asked the guys to save the nest. I put it in a

pine tree. They could not seem to find it so when I took it down to move it again the eggs fell out. They started to build a new nest on a roof gutter. It was so slippery the twigs kept falling. I put the old nest up there and now she's on it with I hope two new eggs.

How does she eat? I don't the male coming to feed her or sit on the nest. Could she be on the old EMPTY nest thinking her eggs are still there? I put out some water but she never leaves the nest. What else can I do to help? I hope she doesn't die up there without food or water.

Birds are extremely intelligent. It will be interesting to watch and see what happens. Happy Birding!
