Morning Doves

by Patricia
(Minnesota)

Dove Babies

Dove Babies

They have nested in the pine tree outside my kitchen window for the 3 years we have lived in our current home. This is the first year I have seen the babies. Yesterday they looked almost ready to leave the nest.

This morning the nest is empty. The parents are sitting on my bird bath in the front yard, but I don't see the babies. Where do they go? Do they not stay with the parents?

I am afraid something has likely gotten the babies. Doves do have several broods in a year,if that is of any concellation. Susan

The babies look big enough to fly away. If that is the case, do they stay with the parents or go off on their own?

Comment

Usually the mother is nearby.
