Mira River Cape Breton, NS Canada Resident

Not much to say except it is the first time sighting this type of bird. Looks identical to the Northern Flicker. Black chest with black spots around body, and a red head, long beak, bigger then a robin. Its eating off the ground, seems to pick the same spot and works on it for a while. Seems to be around feeding times, perhaps going back to a nest? Have no pictures as yet.

Northern flicker

Northern Flickers love to eat ants. That's why you often see them pecking at the ground.
