Was going to rescue what I was told was a white dove. Well, this guy was huge, probably bigger than a macaw. He had a bit of a hawk-like look but seemed very tame. He also looked like a dove but didn't really act like a dove. Was totally white with these huge feet! I am trying to identify what he is so I can see if he needs to be rescued. He's pretty much taken up residence in a garage, but comes and goes, too, flies high. You can get pretty close to him. He doesn't seem to coo but made a hih, hih kind of sound when I approached him. I do have a photo. If someone contacts me, I can forward the photo for observation.

White Hawk NEW

May be that you have an Albino White Hawk. If you google Albino White Hawk you can likely see a photo of this bird for comparison to what you have.

sounds like NEW
by: Anonymous

Sounds like a harrier, hawk or falcon of some kind.
Be very careful, birds of prey have talons like razors, don't try and catch it without using something like an old towel or T-shirt to protect yourself. Don't give it water, these birds drain liquid from their prey through a hole in their tongue and water could kill them. If you need to feed it, give it raw ground meat.
As this one's flying, it doesn't seem as if it needs rescuing.
PS I know all the above because I once rescued a nearly fully-fledged kestrel hawk, but I didn't touch it until I'd talked to the people at the nearest wild bird rescue centre who told me what to do. I can't tell adequately you what a pleasure it was to feed a kestrel ground beef and to see, close up, the hole in its tongue. Then to find it had made it back to the nest the next day.
