it is a grey with a little brown on top. It walks slowly but flies fast. it is seen in my backyard all year round. the grown ups are quite chubby. the babies are mostly brown and move much faster than their parents

Hi Marlene, I have some questions for you that might help us ID the bird.
How big is it compared to a robin?
you say grey with brown on top.
What color is the birds body?
what color is the head?
does it eat on the ground or from a hanging feeder?
are there any other markings or color?
does it perch in a tree or only on the ground?
