Male Rose Breasted Grosbeak


I was happily surprised to look out the kitchen window & see a male rose breasted grosbeak on the nyjer seed feeder. He remained there for quite some time, & was more interested in that feeder than the one with black oil sunflower seeds.

I didn't realize they liked nyjer seed. We put it out (mostly) for the gold finches, house finches & pine siskins. Even the morning doves "squeeze" onto this feeder & help themselves.
I look forward to seeing both male & female grosbeaks this season in my yard, along with many other song birds.
