Hi Charles,

I reread your question and all of the things I had ask were answered in your original statement. Sorry about that.

Do you think it may have been a northern Flicker? They have a specked breast, a brownish back, but their tail is longer too. They are in the wood pecker family and so their beak is long, they eat off the ground and hanging feeders that they can cling to. They love suet!

Long billed insect eating bird. NEW
by: Charles Rackley

This bird was the color of a brown thrasher with brown on the back and upper body and speckled on the breast. It was the size of a brown thrasher within the body. The tail was very short, not long like a brown thrasher. The beak was about two and a half inches long, and it was feeding on mealworms both from an open container in a tree and on the ground.

hi Charles,

can you tell me how this bird resembles a brown thrasher? Is it the color, the spotted breast, the stance, or it's size? was your bird on the ground or in a tree on a branch?
