Little green bird

We were on a boat about a mile off the coast of California when this little guy landed for some rest. Obviously not a water bird but wondering who he is.

This is a Ruby Crowned Kinglet, a female. The males have brighter feather and a red spot on the head:)

What is this bird?!

I found this same bird, and the poor little guy was hurt. Can anybody please identify this bird? I live in Naperville, Illinois.
