Little Gray Bird

I have a little gray bird 4-5" all gray with orange beak, he flies into my kitchen window several times a day - he wants in bad - he's been doing this for 4 weeks or so. I live in central Kansas and was just trying to figure out what kind of bird he might be.

I live in California and a small gray bird with an orange beak just flew up to my patio making kind of a quacking sound! Now it's flying around everywhere...

Little gray bird flying into window
by: Sherry

Austin here... Gray bird with orange beak, orange undersided tail and wings still hammering my bedroom windows. I wrote in few weeks ago about this. She seemed to stop for a few days and then we went OOT for four days. Well she's baaaaaack. I have six windows in my bedroom and she goes from one to another trying to get in! I hear others around the country with same situation-anyone monitoring the site with suggestions? Can't be this many of these birds just whacko!

Chickadee's
by: Anonymous

Not about the gray bird but... I live in the city of Wichita and for the last few years, my chickadee's have not returned. I had heard that a virus had taken many of them over the last few years, but I am trying to attact at least a pair. I have hung a new nesting house on my tree and have sunflower seeds in a new feeder, but does anyone have any new idea. I just love them and my friends have them on the West side of Wichita, but I do not hear them around our neighborhood on the east side. Any suggestions?

It's called a loony bird. All kidding aside I have the same problem with a female cardinal, brownish gray with an orange beak. The male cardinal will even bring the female food but she is obsessed with the window. Flying into the window and hitting or peaking it. My hubby says that they do that because they see their reflection. I don't know why unless the female bird is just nuts.

For the last 3 weeks I have also had the exact same situation - a little gray bird with an orange beak repeatedly flying into my window. I cannot understand why the bird would do something that seems self destructive yet it does not appear to be hurt afterwards. Any explanation?

JUST TWO WEEKS AGO, I DISCOVERED THE SAME LITTLE GRAY BIRD WITH ORANGE BEAK NESTING OUTSIDE MY KITCHEN WINDOW IN MY VIRGINIA CREEPER VINE. SHE DOES NOT STAY IN THE NEST ALL THE TIME SO I AM NOT SURE IF SHE HAS EGGS. I DO NOT SEE A MATE OF ANYKIND AND THE BIRD IS NOT AGRESSIVE WHEN I AM AROUND. I WATCH HER COME AND GO FROM MY WINDOW. ANY IDEAS OF WHAT SHE IS? KIND OF LATE FOR A NEST ( MIDDLE OF JULY)

House Sparrow pecking at window
by: Anonymous

Hello, we have a bird who repeatedly beaks our window, paces back and forth, even have pulled the shades down, he still does this. He looks closest to a house sparrow as far as I can tell.
I read he might be doing this re: reflection in the glass, he imagines he is seeing a competitor.
I think I'll place a picture right where he's beaking the window and see if it might help. I'm not so sure on the reflection theory, because when this bird attacks the window, he does so by swiftly flying down to sit on the ledge to immediately start pecking at the window, even if several hours have gone by when he has not done it~ so how would he have time to study his "reflection" if he swoops in and immediately starts pecking? Any insight? Thanks, Deb

i have one that was stuck and chirping outside under a bush i had to pull a stick off of his neck andmove him to another location, he cant fly and itsabout 5inches long grey and has a bright yellow orange beak, he seems to be missing some major feathers on his tail and wings and i do not know how to care for him or if theres even a chance for him to surivive, poor little guy. was wondering if you knew what it was yet or of anything about what it eats. thanks
