Lisa in San Jose

It was dusk and I heard an unfamiliar bird calling. When I looked out the door at first I did not see anything, then I noticed what I first thought was a ball of paper in the driveway. It started to move and I picked up my camera and followed the bird around the yard trying to take pictures. It did not fly way but went into a neighbors yard.

I would like to know what kind of bird it is.

What size is the bird? Did you get a look at its coloration from the front? Thank you!
