Large, Chubby Bird in S.W. Michigan tree

by Pat

March---In S. W. Michigan, I have seen a large grey-faced bird with a straight yellow beak and short yellow legs. It has brown- speckled wings and is quite chubby.

When he's around, the other birds go for cover. He/She appears to be a loner.
I am wondering what this is. Any ideas?
