large breed white baby bird

by Laura
(southeast colorado)

My son saw a baby bird on the ground behind our house. He was unable to get a picture. It was kind of fat, and about the size of a full grown quail. It was definitely a baby because it still had down instead of feathers. It was a bright white all over. It's beak was straight and about 2 to 2 and a half inches in length. Anybody have any ideas of what this could be?
